Data exchange with other software
Is it possible to exchange data from SimaPro to Gabi and vice-versa?
The common interface for this is the EcoSpold import-export that is available in both softwares. You will need SimaPro Analyst or Developer to use this feature.
The EcoSpold format does not include certain information e.g. on parameters. Thus, there might be a certain loss of information during the data exchange from one programme to the other. Also other features which are only available in only one of the two softwares will not be supported.
Gabi cannot link automatically the inputs and outputs of a process to the data already available in the database or imported as new dataset. This has to be done manually on so-called plans and needs some time depending on the number of datasets you like to exchange and model.
So far we have only experience from one project were we used both software. Here we elaborated the LCI directly in Excel and transformed them to EcoSpold files.
Import of the EcoSpold to SimaPro can be done without problems.
Import to Gabi was also possible without problems, but in order to calculate results it is necessary to elaborate also GaBi plans manually.
The data from this project are now available in both software formats as well as EcoSpold files for your own tests.
So far we do not have real experience with direct data exchange between the two softwares. Depending on the project elaborating the LCI in EcoSpold format might be an option to use it in both softwares. Please let us know if you have own experiences.
The German SimaPro partner GreenDelta TC has released a format converter, a tool to convert important LCA data formats from one format into the other, as free software. The software is available for download at the project's sourceforge site.
